One of the most powerful instructions given to us as believers is meditation. Meditation has been a mediaeval practice. In the old time, meditation is a culture. Perhaps this has been noticed to bless, heal, deliver and empower. What we receive from hearing God's word comes through meditation. We do not get blessed and transformed because we come to church or merely listen to lots and lots of sermons. Attendance only grants opportunity to access but not guaranteed for breakthrough until meditation on God's word conveys the actual blessing.
Faith by Hearing.
We have learnt that Faith comes… (Heb. 11.1) (And I want to believe also that faith can go by "Not Hearing"). Backsliding is noticed when the word starts to fade off in the heart of a believer. At this phase, what we used to believe in, or walk becomes some kind harder to depend on. We hear the disciple saying in their unbelieving state, "Father, help thou my unbelief". God has helped our unbelief by sending the Word of Faith. He has solved our hopeless condition by giving us spirit aflame Word of Life. Nothing that fix unbelief, anxiety, fear and worry as Eternal life. Faith is produced by Hearing because meditation works! Meditation acts on the living Word. The word is living because it is life! John 1.3-5.
What meditation did to the Elders
Heh. 11.2 says, "By Faith (which comes by meditation on the living Word of Faith"), the elders OBTAINED a good result! Healing is a result! It's a result of God's word working in our mortal bodies. Supernatural intelligence is a result, it edges out among your contemporaries. Wife who honours her husband is a result of God's word in heart of the meditating wife. Love glows in the heart of a husband who knows how to meditate on the living Word.
Meditation on the Living Word
Our Lord Jesus says, "For the Word I speak unto you are spirit and life…" John 6.63b. The Word is not like our word. We often lose out because we think His word is like our words. Our words are not living. They die because they lack sufficient life to prison demoniacal forces, overrule dark mandates, invoke eternal life or cast out devils. They aren't spirit and life. Our word only becomes irresistible and living when we align our Word with His Word after meditation.
Examples
- 1Tim.4.15 - Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all. Profiting appears when meditation on the living Word takes effects on our thought life. They are latent to profiting us.
- 1Tim.4.16 - Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee. Men have experience divine shielding from worldly corruption because they kept themself in meditating on the living Word and continued in them. There are corruption that weaken many believers round the world. It has kept many under. Never allowed them to be the best of themselves. But the Word is the antidote!
